What to Know About Napa Women's Center
Free and Confidential Services
Every service is free, and nothing you share goes outside the center. We don’t bill your insurance, we don’t send records to your primary care doctor, and we don’t add you to any mailing list you didn’t ask to be on. If there’s anyone you’re worried will find out about your appointment, they won’t hear it from us.
Accurate Medical Information
We don’t provide or refer for abortions, and we’re upfront about that. What we will do is give you accurate information about how the abortion pill works, what the risks are, and what should be ruled out first, so nothing takes you by surprise.
A Free Ultrasound Before You Decide
Whether the abortion pill is even an option for you, and what risks it carries, depends on two things you can’t know from a test strip: how far along you are, and where the pregnancy is located. A free limited ultrasound, performed by a trained sonographer, answers both before you make any decision.

Visiting Napa Women’s Center is simple and supportive. The whole appointment usually takes about an hour.

Quick Check In
You’ll fill out a short intake form and briefly meet with your client advocate so she understands where you are. If you haven’t confirmed your pregnancy yet, we can do a free lab-quality pregnancy test on the same visit.

A Free Limited Ultrasound
A trained sonographer will confirm how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is viable, and whether it’s located in the uterus. These are the three answers that matter most before considering the abortion pill, and you’ll get them at no cost.

Leave With a Plan
You’ll sit down with your advocate to go over what the ultrasound showed and what it means for the decision in front of you, including your questions about the abortion pill. You’ll leave with accurate information you can take to any doctor, and the decision stays with you.
What Is the Abortion Pill, Exactly?
The abortion pill is not a single pill. It is a regimen of two powerful medications: mifepristone, which cuts off the hormone the pregnancy depends on, and misoprostol, which causes labor-like contractions to end and expel the pregnancy. Ordering it online can look quick and simple, but this is a serious medical procedure, and convenience can hide real risks to your health.
Taken without medical oversight, complications are harder to catch and harder to treat. Tissue left behind can mean an incomplete abortion that requires emergency surgery to finish. Heavy, prolonged bleeding can become dangerous and may require medical intervention. Infection and fever are a real risk, and that risk grows when no medical professional is monitoring the process. And not every online pharmacy is what it claims to be. The FDA has warned that some providers ship counterfeit or substandard drugs, which puts your body at unpredictable risk.
Is the Pregnancy Ectopic?
If the pregnancy is located outside the uterus, the abortion pill will not end it, and the pregnancy can rupture, which is life-threatening. An ectopic pregnancy can’t be detected by a test strip or by how you feel. Only an ultrasound can rule it out, and we provide that scan for free.
How Far Along Are You?
The abortion pill is generally not recommended or effective beyond 10 to 11 weeks, and miscalculating your dates by even a week raises the risk of incomplete abortion and infection. Many women are further along than they think. A free limited ultrasound gives you a real answer instead of an estimate.
IUD or Medical Conditions?
An IUD must be removed before taking the abortion pill to avoid serious complications. Certain health conditions matter too: bleeding disorders, heart or blood vessel disease, and some liver or kidney conditions can make the pill dangerous for you specifically.
