Just Took a Pregnancy Test?

Your Test Was Positive. Here’s What Comes Next.

A positive pregnancy test can stop time for a minute, whether you were hoping for it or dreading it. Before you make any calls or any decisions, take a breath. A home test is information, not a plan. Napa Women’s Center is a free, confidential place to confirm what’s actually going on and think through what comes next, at your pace.

What to Know About Napa Women's Center

Free and Confidential Services

Every service is free, and nothing you share goes outside the center. We don’t bill your insurance, we don’t send records to your primary care doctor, and we don’t add you to any mailing list you didn’t ask to be on. If there’s anyone you’re worried will find out about your appointment, they won’t hear it from us.

Confirm It First

Home tests are good, but they can’t tell you everything, and the occasional faint or misleading result happens. We’ll confirm your pregnancy with a free lab-quality test, the same kind used in clinical settings, with results on the same visit.

Trained Client Advocates

You’ll meet with a trained client advocate who’s been through this conversation many times. Not a doctor, not a counselor in the clinical sense. Someone who’ll sit with you, listen first, and answer your questions at your pace.

No Pressure, Ever

Whatever you decide is yours to decide. Our job is to give you the information and the space to think, not to steer you toward a particular outcome. Take what’s helpful, leave the rest, and come back if and when you want to.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Visiting Napa Women’s Center is simple and supportive. The whole appointment usually takes about an hour.

1

Quick Check In

You’ll fill out a short intake form and briefly meet with your client advocate so she understands where you are. If you haven’t confirmed your pregnancy yet, we can do a free lab-quality pregnancy test on the same visit.

2

A Real Conversation

You and your advocate will sit down privately and talk through where you are, how you’re feeling about it, and what questions you have. If your test is positive, she’ll walk you through what comes next and your three options, honestly and without an agenda.

3

Leave With a Plan

You’ll leave with accurate information, any relevant referrals (for prenatal care, adoption agencies, community resources, or anything else you need), and a next step that fits where you are. No commitment, no follow-up calls you didn’t ask for.

Three Things to Sort Out First

A positive home test tells you one thing: the pregnancy hormone is in your system. It doesn’t tell you how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is viable, or whether it’s located where it should be. Those three answers shape every path in front of you, and they’re worth having before you make any decision.

All three are free at Napa Women’s Center, and none of them commit you to anything.

Confirm the Pregnancy

Start with a free lab-quality pregnancy test to confirm your home result. It’s accurate about 10 days after conception, takes a few minutes, and you’ll have your answer before you leave. If it turns out to be negative, you’ll have saved yourself a lot of worry.

Get a Limited Ultrasound

If your test is positive, a free limited ultrasound performed by a trained sonographer confirms how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is viable, and whether it’s in the uterus. About 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in natural miscarriage, which is part of why confirming viability matters before making plans.

Understand Your Options

Parenting, adoption, and abortion. Your advocate will walk you through how each one actually works, what resources exist locally, and what each path looks like from where you’re standing. No pressure toward any of them, and no judgment about any of them.
