It can be overwhelming to discover that you are likely pregnant. Whether you’ve just had a positive result from an at-home pregnancy test or you’re trying to figure out why your period is late, it can be difficult to know what to do next. If you’re looking for pregnancy help in Napa, it probably means you’re looking for answers minus the judgment of others. The situation can feel like your world has stopped, but getting the facts shouldn’t be stressful.
Many of the women who come to see us at Napa Women’s Center are completely overwhelmed, whether they already have children, are students, or never expected to find themselves in this situation. The great thing about our services is that they are completely free, confidential, and without pressure or judgment. This is a major relief when you’re feeling out of control and also worried about the cost. You don’t need to have your own insurance or credit card to get services here.
What your visit looks like
When you arrive, a friendly team member will greet you and explain what to expect during your appointment. Your visit will typically begin with a lab-quality pregnancy test. Even if you’ve already done a home test, a clinical-grade test will confirm your results and help you explore next steps for your situation. All test results are kept confidential, and we will provide them during the visit.
After you’ve completed the pregnancy test, you will meet with a trained client advocate for a one-on-one consultation. There is no pressure when we meet to talk about pregnancy options. This is a conversation that helps you understand the three choices you have: parenting, adoption, and abortion. We discuss the different types of abortion procedures and what to expect from each one. Our goal is to make sure you can make an informed choice based on facts, not fear.
The role of medical confirmation
If your pregnancy test is positive, we can offer you a limited ultrasound, which is an important next step since a positive pregnancy test simply confirms that the pregnancy hormone is present in your body. It does not confirm whether or not it is a viable pregnancy. Studies show that somewhere around 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. An ultrasound will confirm whether or not there is a heartbeat and allow us to measure the gestational age (how far into the pregnancy you are).
An ultrasound will also detect whether or not a pregnancy is ectopic (growing outside the uterus), as this occurs in approximately 2 percent of pregnancies. An ectopic pregnancy is a serious medical issue since the fertilized egg is not able to develop normally and requires immediate medical care. Having ultrasound information will help you know what is going on inside your body when you make your final pregnancy decision.
Napa Women’s Center is a licensed medical center. All medical services, including pregnancy testing and ultrasounds, are performed by a Registered Nurse.
Addressing the misconceptions
You may have heard of California pregnancy centers and read information on the internet about our services. We are committed to being transparent about the services we provide. We do not perform abortions, and we do not refer for them. This is because our mission is to provide support, education, and resources for women and their families facing an unplanned pregnancy. Women should have a safe place to work through all of their emotions regarding an unplanned pregnancy. No matter the choice you make regarding your pregnancy, you will not be judged or shamed at our facility.
Support for the long haul
We provide assistance to women who have chosen to parent their child by offering free baby supplies, such as diapers, clothes, and bottles. We have an Earn While You Learn program where you can attend parenting classes to earn credits toward larger items to help you prepare for your family’s needs after the baby is born. We also provide post-abortion support for anyone experiencing feelings after a past procedure. This type of assistance extends not only to you, but to partners and family members too, because an abortion can affect many people.
